MiraSpa at the Mira Hotel

1 February, 2010

Last week Maura and I were invited, along with a group of other “press gals” (are we press gals? how exciting!) to take a look at the brand new facilities at the MiraSpa, in the basement of the recently revamped Mira Hotel in TST. 18,000 square foot in size and featuring the indoor infinity pool shown above, the MiraSpa feels like an otherworldly retreat where you can completely lose track of time and totally devote yourself to pampering. The feel is ultra-modern and minimalistic, but it somehow avoids being cold by using a clever lighting system which creates a cocoon-like feeling. Light is a theme throughout the spa, with the fibre-optic ceiling lights above the pool constantly changing tones, and the ability to customize your own light colour during your treatment, like in the Aura Room. ย There’s a very feminine feel to all the areas of the spa, with shades of lilac and mauve used as accents, and the furniture is sleek and white (like the day beds you can see above which line the pool).

There are seven spa suites (above is the VIP room which has it’s own jacuzzi and two beds for partner treatments), and there are also some great relaxation areas that you can make use of either before or after your treatment. One of our favourite things was the waterbeds in the “Floatation Suite” – quite hard to pull yourself out of them because they really suck you in! In terms of treatments, we love the idea of the “Inner Sanctum”, which is described as a “Fire and Water body balancing ritual” which starts with a mother of pearl body scrub, followed by a deep tissue and acupressure massage, and finished with a bespoke Elemental Facial (2 hours 45 minutes for $1,950).

The other great thing about the MiraSpa is its nail bar, which puts it top Mani-Pedi location Kowloon-side in our books. The seats are comfy and perfect for chatting with friends, and there are a huge range of OPI nail colours. A basic manicure is priced at $220, and a 60 minute “Luxury Manicure” is $300, making the prices pretty reasonable. You can even order from a selection of smoothies made by their Bar Lounge, or do as we think we’d be tempted to, and opt for one of their cocktails! We can really imagine that the MiraSpa would be a great venue for a hen day/evening of pampering, or even for a fun birthday day out with girlfriends. There’s even a Private-i Hair Salon based within the spa, which was just gearing up to go into action when we visited.

In terms of products, the MiraSpa uses the ubiquitous Dr. Murad for those who like to stay within their comfort zone with a range they’re familiar with, and also the less common “Elemental Herbology” and “Anne Semonin” (based on the concept of mixing products to create the perfect solution for your skin) ranges.

We’re very lazy, and usually stay firmly on the Island when it comes to our favourite beautification spots, but we think the MiraSpa gives us a great reason to head over to “The Darkside”!
