Melissa shoes FW12 – your new rainy day shoe solution!

You never know when the next downpour might be round the corner in Hong Kong! Whilst we previously tried to stomp out the issue of what footwear to don when it’s raining, we have gone one better and found a shoe company that is leaps and bounds above the others in this soggy-footed dilemma. Meet Melissa!

Founded in 1979, Melissa specialises in shoes made of Melflex, their signature PVC that stands up to heavy usage and heavy downpours alike!  This Brazilian company quickly found its footing with the launch of the “Aranha” model which was an 80s fashion staple for teen girls and they’re still going strong today! We checked out their Fall/Winter 2012 collection to see what’s new, what’s being revived from days of old and what we should stock up for those rainy days!

Move over ballet flats… The loafer is the new go-to shoe of the season!  I loved the caramel coloured leopard version ($600) and could see these with rolled up skinny jeans on a drizzly day!

There is also a fleeced version for clearer skies, which sport some very regal decorations. And in pure 80s delight, you can also cover your toes with twinkly toppers in these glittery versions!

If you would like something more subdued, then check out the lovely little lace ups. Can’t you see these pairing perfectly with a pretty tea-dress or even some slouchy rolled up khakis and a white tee?!

Or how about edging up your look with these PVC ankle boots? It’s a very fashion forward take on old school wellies and breathes new life into a very classic idea. These would be adorable with dark tights and a little dress for HK’s fall weather.

Melissa is also known for their awesome designer collaborations. Currently on offer are loads of fab flats from designers like Gareth Pugh and Jason Wu (HK$750) and in the past, the likes of Jean-Paul Gaultier, Thierry Mugler and even the punk queen herself, Vivienne Westwood have had a go at creating their own Melissa originals! We can’t wait to see who might be next!
