Jessica FW13 – your one-stop-shop for party dresses

21 November, 2013

Sometimes you think you know a brand… and then they turn around and surprise the heck out of you by blowing everything you thought you knew about them out the water! Which is exactly how I felt when I saw Jessica’s latest Fall/Winter 2013 Collection.

I remember Jessica’s old shop on Queen’s Road Central (now MCM), which I used to pilfer air-con from when the summer heat raged. After many trips round the racks, I had come to associate this 30-year old Hong Kong fashion brand with work appropriate basics in a range of neutral fabrics, with little embellishments here and there. However, Jessica has decided to up the ante this season and create a line of show-stopping pieces sure to capture your attention. Get ready to be completely taken with the brand you only thought you knew!

What grabbed our attention first was the range of striking colours and prints on offer! Pinks, yellows and graphic greens galore hung along the racks, leaving us in a dizzy excited state after mere minutes. Kiss your LBD goodbye this holiday season – unless you intend to top it with this gorgeous pink portrait collar coat that’s straight out of an episode of Mad Men! Another option for your festive fiestas would be this striking black and green striped dress, which I reckon would flatter nearly every figure.

If you think you will be working more than partying this fall, then check out these easy office pieces. Add a classic pump and large latte and you can wow the workforce!

When cocktails call, switch your workday jewels for a statement piece and stash your cash in a clutch to hit the town. In need of a neck party? Jessica boasts a few astonishing adornments to elevate your attire. Just have a peek at these bad boys!

Nevertheless, if you are a fan of the ever-chic LBD, then Jessica still has you covered. They’ve taken a stand-by classic and added enough pizzazz to make you fall in love with this timeless garment all over again! My favourite was the lace-topped number with sequin floral appliqués on the full skirt (above left); I could see myself wearing this now or in 30 years… here’s hoping I stay the same size (let’s hear it for the wonders of Spanx)!

If you already have more than enough little black dresses to rely upon when the invites flood in, then the way to really stand out in a crowd is to rock an LWD! This season, Jessica also has an abundance of stunning snowy silhouettes – think girlie meets structured, with ladylike embellishments combined with a masculine collar on easy shift dresses, making them appropriate for nearly every environment. Conservative enough for a work shindig or meeting the bf’s family, you are ready to dazzle in a sea of LBDs!

However, my absolute fave had to be the black and white embellished midi dress (above left). Just look at that collar! Sweep your hair up high, draw on an exaggerated cat-eye and you’ll be the belle of the ball! That collar was made for a whirlwind of paparazzi… even if it is just your friends snapping iPhone shots. Hello Instagram #fabulous!

So is this the Jessica you knew before? I didn’t think so! Thanks to their stunning line of party frocks (most of which clock in at the $2-3,000 mark), you can now say yes to every invite that hits your inbox over the party season – after all, you will be dressed to impress in no time, whether it is in a little black, white, or even green dress! Stock up on the Aspirin girls, because you will be one stunning social butterfly this Christmas!
