Win a Glamorous Girls’ Staycation at the InterContinental Hong Kong!

5 February, 2016

Who rules the world? Girls!

It’s days like today, when I’m rushing into the MTR, bags falling off my shoulders, sprinting towards the train doors (even though I’ve been explicitly told to mind that they’re closing), that I vow to book a damn holiday. Unfortunately all it takes is a swift elbow from a feisty old lady somewhere around Admiralty to bring home my lack of spare holiday leave and unenthused bank balance. Although I love living in Hong Kong, I’m sure some would agree that occasionally you just need a break from the crowds that are most definitely more hustle than bustle. Well, listen up girls, the InterContinental Hotel has hit the nail on the head in the form of an incredibly relaxing, Girls’ Getaway Package. Welcome in the Leap Year and get swept off your poor aching feet and straight into a luxurious weekend break. A home away from home… just across the harbour.

InterContinental Hong Kong - The Room

The Rooms

The view. Oh-my-days, the view. Grab the girls, don’t take no for an answer and book yourself into one of these Junior Harbourview Suites, because I’m not exaggerating when I say that we sat staring out of the window for at least half an hour just watching Hong Kong tick by. Sipping champagne, counting the ferries and gaping at the twinkling harbour lights was the perfect start to the weekend. Whether it’s just you and your bestie, or your entire group of girls, each suite can accommodate between two and five people with the option of asking for an extra bed, or upgrading your stay to an Executive (for an extra $2,000) or Deluxe (for an extra $4,000) Suite to make the occasion even more special.

InterContinental Hong Kong - Bellinis

Having spent the last two years in a teeny-tiny Hong Kong apartment, walking into the spacious suite was an absolute dream. There was a king sized bed, an abundance of soft pillows, a sunken tuscan-style bath, complete with white fluffy robes and a welcomed knock on the door signalling the arrival of two, fizzy bellinis.

With only a few hours before we had to head down to the Lobby Lounge for a spot of Afternoon Champagne Tea, we wasted no time getting comfy and tuning in to The Princess Diaries on Pearl. Of course, we also cracked into a cheeky, extra bottle of bubbles that we brought with us (just in case!) – it’s a girls’ weekend after all!

InterContinental Hong Kong - Afternoon Tea

The Afternoon Tea

It’s a given that those from across the pond (i.eme) really miss their fill of tea and scones, so believe me when I say that we’ve found the next best thing to those fancy afternoon sessions at Ladurée in London! With amazing harbour views, your pick of freshly brewed tea or coffee, a fresh glass of champagne and a huge silver platter of delicious sweet and savoury morsels, you’ll most definitely be in your element.

The scones are warm and the clotted cream as sumptuous as ever, but you’ll want to book in a cheat day as their gorgeous, chocolate filled pastries and tarts may put those resolutions on hold (just for the weekend!).

InterContinental Hong Kong - Breakfast Buffet

The Buffet

What better way to finish up an incredible weekend with your favourites than with an enormous buffet breakfast? I mean, apart from being the most important meal of the day, let’s be honest – breakfast is freakin’ awesome. With free-flowing freshly squeezed orange juice (to soothe those bubble-induced hangovers) and a never ending selection of Western and Asian dishes, you’ll be three heaped plates deep before realising that you’ve inhaled enough food to feed the family of five sat next to you. Totally worth it.

InterContinental Hong Kong - Breakfast Buffet

From freshly baked breads and pastries to an entire bar just dedicated to cereals, even the pickiest of eaters would die and go to breakfast heaven. We wasted no time in getting stuck in to mounds of bacon, bagels and steaming baskets of char sui bao (#sorrynotsorry) before accepting defeat and heading back to the room for a food-induced power-nap. A late check out of 2pm meant that we had loads of time to relax and enjoy the hotel room. I took serious advantage of having a long, hot bath (returning to a shower was heart breaking) and lounging around in the cosy robes and slippers.

The Spa

Being an absolute sucker for a massage, I jumped at the chance to experience the InterContinental’s Signature Spa Experience in the form of a 90-minute Chi Balancing Massage. And with a 35% discount on a la carte treatments inclusive in the staycation package, I would highly recommend jumping too! The masseuse was extremely professional and attentive, ensuring that I was comfortable and the pressure was consistently ahhhmazing. It was explained that the massage would help me to fully relax (perfect after a long week of work) and get back in touch with my body through the use of essential oils, hot compresses and targeting specific pressure points. Considering she had a mammoth task ahead of her, as my back was effectively one giant knot, I left feeling relaxed, calm and less achy than I had done in weeks. Essentially a couples massage room, it even boasted a sauna/steam room combo and a beautiful spa pool. I’ve made it a mission of mine to return and take full advantage it (a Valentine’s Day gift perhaps? Hint hint, boyfriend, hint hint).

The Experience

Even though we had only been away from our flat for a night, simply having a break from the chaos of Causeway Bay meant we returned to the office come Monday morning with a spring in our step. Having been thoroughly spoilt and pampered, it was nice to return to work with a different tale to tell rather than the usual (and inevitable) 2am Stormies disasters that ensue on a Saturday night. So whether you’re celebrating a special occasion (this would be an awesome hen-do!) or just wanting to get away from it all with some great company, believe me when I say that the InterContinental has the whole “girls’ weekend” thing sussed.
