Is it spring? Is it summer? Whatever it is, we’ve hit Hong Kong’s famous wall of humidity which is so sticky, it’s making my hair stand on end (literally!). Everything’s coming up roses though, as there’s a whole host of indoor fun this month to enjoy – from theatre performances galore to foodie fun and more. If you want to get involved, mark these dates in your diary for May!

Sound of MusicTHE SOUND OF MUSIC
Doe, a deer, a female deer… yes, everyone’s favourite von Trapp family is in town, and we’re giving away tickets to this spectacular show! The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic is going to be staged at the Lyric Theatre, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, so enter our competition below for your chance to win tickets to the Thursday, 21 May showing!

Pintura CircleTrichotomy Union in Art
Pintura Circle, in conjunction with the Philippine Consulate, is hosting Trichotomy Union in Art, an exhibition featuring sculptor Ram Mallari, acrylic painter Francis Nacion and oil painter Gerrico Blanco. Part of the proceeds will go to Anakatira, a charity organisation in the 852 which is also part of the Cebu City Task Force. They have a scholarship programme and a Sunday school for kids of all ages, particularly children living on the streets, teaching them to read, maths, arts, gardening and more.

Helter SkelterHelter Skelter Live
If you’re feeling blue (see what I did there!), check out Blues band Helter Skelter at Fringe Club. The Hong Kong-based band plays a combo of original music and covers, and will lift anyone’s spirits on a gloomy day. See you there!

The Print MarketThe Print Market
If you’re looking to spruce up the walls of your inevitably tiny flat in the 852, head over to The Print Market, where you’ll find printed works and posters from nine of our favourite artists, designers and illustrators. Artists include Emily Eldridge, Charles Munka, Winnie Ng, Emilie Sarnel and more. Meet and greet them on Saturday, 16 May, but if you can’t make it then, the exhibition will continue until Wednesday, 27 May.

Affordable Art FairAffordable Art Fair
If you love art but can’t afford the steep price of a Damien Hirst (urgh, I’ve got my eye on this one… maybe for my dream home!) check out the Affordable Art Fair that’s hitting town again this month. There are loads of artists from Hong Kong and overseas exhibiting their work, so you’re bound to find something that reflects your own personal taste or splash out on a unique and thoughtful present for a special someone.

Drum JamDrum Jam

Hong Kong Rum FestHong Kong Rum Fest 2015
If you’re in the mood for some cocktails, head over to one of our favourite tiki spots in town, Honi Honi, for Hong Kong’s annual Rum Fest. The weekend will feature more than 1,000 guests from around the world, as well as Nice Pops ice-pops and food from Pololi. There will be rum tastings, cocktail competitions and more. Enjoy!
