As one of the three (lucky) participating cities for Art Basel, we’re excited that it’s back for another round! Have a gander around the Convention Centre and check out the amazing works from galleries all over the world, plus loads of expert talks, special presentations and panel discussions. Whether you’re a collector, artist, critic or you just want to see what all the fuss is about – this is one of the highlights of Hong Kong’s cultural calendar.

Art CentralArt Central
Why not check out the new Art Central, an art fair showcasing the next generation of talent alongside the works of more established artists. It’s taking place smack in the middle of Central, so you have no excuses not to get to this one! Asia Contemporary Art Show

Asia Contemporary Art Show
Showcasing more than 3,000 artworks from 20 countries, the Asia Contemporary Art Show is back in Hong Kong! Set in a hotel, you’ll be able to browse and buy original paintings, limited editions, sculptures and photography from some of the hottest up and coming artists in the region. There will be some big names that you’ll recognise as well as some emerging artists too – all showing off their latest and greatest works. More deets here.

South Island Art NightSouth Island Art Night
The southern part of HK Island is truly stunning, and now there’s a group of art galleries in the district that have gathered together for South Island Art Night, a series of exhibition openings and artist performances in the lead up to Art Basel. This is perfect if you’re looking for a bit of art away from the hectic city… Enjoy!

Chai Wan MeiChai Wan Mei Art & Design Festival
Yep, this is the month of the art festivals! Chai Wan Mei isn’t just another one to add to the list though – this cool art festival is set  around the eastern part of the island, and is definitely one to check out if you’re looking for really interesting and avant-garde works. There’ll be (rogue) art installations and workshops from Insight School of Interior Design as well as the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers.

When: Saturday, 14 March, 11am-9pm & Sunday, 15 March, 11am-7pm
Where: All around Chai Wan! There are free shuttle buses every 30 minutes during event hours from Statue Square in Central and Expo Drive in Wan Chai.

Green Art AsiaART CAR
Green Art Asia is hosting ART CAR, a thrilling art and automobile exhibition with renowned contemporary artist Nan Qi. Nan Qi’s signature ink dot works of art will be on display and are all inspired by the concept of art, automobiles and sex (ooh la la!). Held in a car showroom, this is definitely an interesting one to check out this month!

THEATRE

Thinner Than WaterThinner Than Water
Local theatre group Aurora Theatre is back with Thinner Than Water, a gripping and real dramedy. If you love a bit of theatre, you’ll be impressed by the talented actors from the group, who portray the story of Martin and his family.

When: Wednesday, 4 March – Saturday, 7 March

Pride & PrejudicePride and Prejudice
A stage production of one of my favourite books by Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice, will be performed in Hong Kong this month. It’s not Colin Firth playing Mr. Darcy, but the actors from the Gate Theatre instead. Check out other theatre and music events from the Hong Kong Arts Festival here.

CatsCats
We were wooed by Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Phantom of the Opera at the start of the year, so we’re super excited for Cats to hit HK! Hop on the ferry to Macau to catch this one, as it’s definitely one you don’t want to miss. The Tony and Olivier award-winning play is sure to impress even the most discerning theatre audiences.

MUSIC

Alors en chanteAlors en chante!
French Canadian singer Liza Melfi will be performing French jazz hits at Mano as part of the Jazz Kezhan monthly series. Feast on dinner while Liza performs or simply pop in for a drink while you enjoy her singing.

When: Wednesday, 11 March, the first set is 7.30-9pm and the second set is 9.30-11pm

Ed SheeranEd Sheeran Live in Hong Kong
The biggest British breakthrough act in recent years is performing in Hong Kong this month. Yep, Ed Sheeran, everyone’s favourite man with a guitar is bringing his live act to the 852. You’ll love singing along to his hits including “Thinking Out Loud” (do you think the dancer from the video will be performing as Ed plays?!) and “Sing”.

One DirectionOne Direction: On The Road Again Tour
We know, we know, we’re no longer tweens who go crazy over the hottest boyband in music… or are we?! Chef TalksChef Talks
You’ve probably read about some of Hong Kong’s best chefs, dined in their restaurants, critiqued their food… but what makes them tick? Check out Chef Talks by Slow Food Hong Kong over the next few weeks. Eight chefs will be sharing their experiences over seven sessions, including Umberto Bombana from 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA, David Lai from Neighbourhood and NUR, and Vicky Lau from Tate Dining Room and Bar. Enjoy!

IWDInternational Women’s Day
Not only is it art month in Hong Kong, March marks International Women’s Day. The Women’s Foundation (TWF) has got a whole host of promotions to mark the occasion this month. Beef & Liberty will donate 100% of the proceeds for their most popular dessert, Cookies and Cream, throughout this month to TWF. Chachawan and Duddell’s have got a super sassy cocktail on offer from 2-8 March, with the proceeds going to the organisation. Mischa is hosting a fundraising shopping night on 11 March: 10% of all the proceeds on the night will go to TWF. Uber is showing their support by donating $1 to TWF for every ride taken between 2-8 March. It’s safe to say this is a cause close to our hearts as well!
