Sassy’s Guide to Father’s Day 2015

10 June, 2015

It’s time to celebrate the main man in your life – your papa! Yep, Father’s Day is right around the corner and it’s time to take a moment to show your dad how much you appreciate him. Treat him to something special (we’ve rounded up some great gift ideas to make your life a little easier!) or take him out for a family get together. Thanks to all the papas out there!

GIFTS FOR DAD

father's dayPremium whisky from around the world
Not many men can say no to a glass of whisky after a long day (or ever), so make Dad’s day with a choice bottle of the premium goods from Whisky Hong Kong. Rarity and quality abound in this online shop.

Available for around $600 and up at www.whiskyhongkong.com.hk.

Portable Weber gas grill
When you’re short on terrace space but big on charbroiled flavour, go for the classic Weber gas grill in a portable version. It’s so iconic and perfectly compact, we’d almost call it cute (but not in front of Dad). You can’t beat Weber quality, which means your Sunday dinner just got a whole lot tastier.

Available for $5,900 at Renaud Hong Kong.

HK Brewcraft home brewing experience
For the Dad who isn’t satisfied with a simple glass of Tsingtao, send him for a day of sudsy chemistry at HK Brewcraft, where he’ll make his own beers from scratch. You’ll need to round up a few papas to get the full experience here, as it’s much more fun to go with a big group of friends or family than arrive and spend a day with strangers (although they are all beer-loving strangers, and likely very fun to be around!).

Available for $680 per person, $600 each for groups of four or more at HK Brewcraft, 15 Cochrane Street, Central, Hong Kong, www.hkbrewcraft.com.

Nespresso Maestria Rosso espresso maker
We have asked more than one espresso snob and discovered that this machine is a mighty fine substitute for that Sicilian espresso bar your Dad won’t stop talking about. Plus it will look fab on your papa’s kitchen counter and make all his friends jealous… think of it as the next best thing to a Porsche (it is red!).

Available for $4,688 at Nespresso.

father's dayTimothy Oulton
If you dad is looking to spruce up his home then you might want to check out the offerings from the very cool British home-store, Timothy Oulton. Whether it’s a bold flag cushion, super suave wall art or even a sporting collectable (those vintage leather boxing gloves are amazing!), this home accessories are definitely going to suit dad’s taste!

Price varies – available at Timothy Oulton; G/F, 17 Gough Street, Central, Hong Kong and 15 St. Francis Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

Classic J.Crew pajamas
When Dad’s jet-lagged beyond belief and FaceTime isn’t cutting it, at least he’ll have these incredibly soft PJs to greet him at the end of a day away from home. He will probably wear these for the next twenty years, unless he leaves them in a hotel in Singapore.

Available for $750 at J.Crew Men’s Store, 9 On Lan Street, Central, Hong Kong

Apple Watch
Is it obnoxiously trendy? Of course it is. Is it still the coolest gift for spring? Yes! This tiny work of art can track his health habits, keep track of his flight status, and make it easier for him to keep sending on-the-go snapshots on the phenomenal little camera.

Available from $2,728 at Apple

father's daySurfing lessons in Sai Kung
Surf Hong Kong lures learners from all over Asia to practice riding waves – Hong Kong style. If your adventurous pop has always wanted to hang loose, why not surprise him with a chance to learn? Expert instructors teach everything from paddling to how to wipeout on one of the best beaches in HK.

Available from $350 at www.surfhongkong.com.

Adventure travel to a far-off destination…
Sometimes planning a trip is full of excitement and anticipation, and sometimes, if we’re honest with ourselves (and Agoda), it’s a royal pain to figure it all out. Take your outdoor-loving Dad on a skiing, diving, or marathoning adventure and let the experts at Flight Centre do all the work. They guarantee the lowest possible flights, so you have nothing to lose!

Available at varying prices depending on itinerary and tickets. Head to the Flight Centre flagship store now open on 17 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Hong Kong, www.flightcentre.com.hk.
