Go vampy for fall! Estee Lauder’s new Pure Colour Vivid Shine make-up

23 August, 2012

Fancy going vampy for fall? Well look no further than Estee Lauder’s new Pure Colour Vivid Shine make-up collections! Deviating from their traditional elegant and simple style, the new ranges showcase vivid hues and metallic finishes, with cool nail polishes, vibrant eye shadows and colour-popping lippies to play with your look for the new season.

Estee Lauder’s Creative Make-Up Director Tom Pecheux was inspired by the dazzling lights of Parisian evenings for the Beyond Black and Metal Mania Nail Lacquer Collections ($160 each). Rach, forever a fan of purple, tried Black Plum from the first collection (see below!), a deep purple that seemed more ruby on the first coat but exhibited more depth on the second. Its subtle shimmer is perfect for those who usually prefer monotone nails but want a pop of sparkle under the light.

I tried the Metal Mania shades Explosif (an ashy-green with gold shimmers) and Fiery Red (a sparkly wine-red), which come out surprisingly close to how they look in the bottle. You’ll need two coats to fully showcase these colors, but don’t worry, they dry relatively quickly and last for a full week without chipping. I feel like this lacquer collection has truly captured the transition between the seasons, with bright summer shades sizzling down to more demure fall colors, but still maintaining the embers of those hot summer nights.

The Limited Edition Vivid Shine Finish and Cyber Metallic Finish Gelee Power Eyeshadows ($210 each) can be applied dry or wet for extra intensity. The Vivid Shine collection stars bright aquas and bold purples that seemed more spring than fall, and I personally would find them difficult to carry on a daily basis. The metallic colours, on the other hand, are more in tune with the nail lacquers and aptly named “cyber” for their starry chromatic finish. The highly pigmented eye shadows are easy enough to apply, but the texture is not quite as creamy as Estee Lauder claims! Though noticeably darker when applied wet, I found that these created some glittery fall-out below the eyes, so beware!

Although the new Pure Colour Vivid Shine lipsticks ($210) do include a scary grey-looking one, don’t worry, they don’t all resemble those sultry nail colours! Supposedly inspired by nature and butterflies in particular, the lippies are mostly tropical pinks, giving the metallic fall look a pop of color. I tried on Pink Riot, a bright pinkish berry (left) and Violet Electra, a mauve plum (middle), and they came out a little lighter than what you see in the tube, but still with a pearly sheen. Moist and long lasting, I’m sure every girl will be able to find a shade to love – after all, there are 20 of them! There’s also four interesting ‘Luminzer’ gold and silver colours that you can layer over the top of your lipstick to give a metallic sparkle.

So if you’re looking to find your inner vamp this season, Estee Lauder’s bold but beautiful new colours have got you covered!

Pure Colour Vivid Shine make-up is available at all Estee Lauder counters now (some items are limited-edition); see all Estee Lauder locations in Hong Kong here.
