Win a Sunday brunch for six!

There’s a new brunch on the block ladies, and it comes with a bomb view too! We checked out the free-flow, Asian-inspired brunch at CÉ LA VI in the heart of Central and weren’t disappointed…

That. View. Though. Seriously, that’s the first thing we noticed when we walked into Cé La Vi’s restaurant area. I’ve been up to the rooftop for their awesome happy hour before so I knew what to expect, but when you get to gaze at it for the entirety of your meal, it’s a whole other experience! The restaurant exudes elegance and sophistication, perfect for an afternoon in pretty dresses with the girls. If you needed a reminder of why you love the city so much, this view is it.

This is definitely not your typical brunch and I loved it even more for that reason. A delicious mix of traditional and modern Asian flavours, this is a happy departure from the standard Eggs Benny or Avo Toast that you may be used to.

We started with a selection of hot and cold appetisers, with standouts like the Creamy Prawns (succulent prawns in a fresh Korean dressing) and the Chef’s selection of Makimono. Since you can order as many of the appetisers as you like, we asked for the delicious salmon and avocado makimono over and over again as it was our definite favourite. An honourable mention also goes out to our Chef’s selection of Robata (slow grilled skewers) – the chicken skewer was a must-try.

After we had our fill of the appetisers, we moved on to the mains. I opted for the New Zealand Lamb (prepared in Asian BBQ style) and it hit the spot. Impeccably cooked and seasoned to perfection, the pieces of lamb seemed to melt in my mouth and left me feeling fully satisfied at the end of my meal.

My friend decided to go for the Misoyaki Black Cod and did not regret her decision, as the glaze on top of the fish was mouthwatering (we switched meals halfway so we could both try a bit of each!). To accompany our mains, we went for sides of Baby Corn with Aged Manchego and Dried Miso as well as Mushrooms with Tofu and Chilli. The simplicity of the sides was the perfect complement to the intricate flavours of our mains.

Finally, we moved on to my personal pièce de résistance of the brunch, the dessert platter. Appropriately a bright Sassy pink, the plate included a tart raspberry macaron, a refreshing mango pudding and the famous, lava-like matcha tart with dense and decadent chocolate mousse on top. We were in heaven, and it was the best way to end a brunch full of unexpected flavours.

A free-flow brunch is not complete without some delicious drinks of course, and CÉ LA VI has prepared a selection of cocktails that will leave your mouth watering. The highlight of the menu is the Bloody Mary Mixing Station where you can pick from an array of spices and condiments to build your own custom cocktail! If Bloody Marys aren’t your thing, we also tried the Storm Cooler (hitting our sweet, sour and spicy cravings!) and the Raspberry Bellini, which was also lip-smackingly good.

If you’re looking for an alternative brunch option that takes you away from your standard pancakes and eggs, this is the place to go! With a killer view and delicious flavours aplenty, you can’t really go wrong here. This would be the ideal spot to impress visitors, take a special date, or just enjoy a really special brunch with your girls – two thumbs up from us!
