Down the Rabbit Hole…

11 March, 2010
We just can’t wait to go and see Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland – despite Johnny Depp’s warning that Disney purists will be in for some disappointment. For us though, from drooling over the trailer, it’s going to be all about the visual feast: the costumes, the special effects, the hauntingly dark feel that is Tim Burton’s signature. To celebrate the film’s launch, we’re bringing you a selection of Alice-inspired fashion – after all, with her distinctive girly look and kooky accessories, she can be considered something of a literary fashion icon!

First up, I love this “Drink Me” necklace from Disney Couture, available via Asos.com – it’s got a fun edge to it that’s very un-Disney!

Secondly, just how fab are these special Alice in Wonderland shoes created by Nicholas Kirkwood for Paris department store, Printemps? The man’s a genius. Decorated with blue silk, red roses, keys and little tiny china teacups and pots, he has let his imagination run riot. I think these should probably end up in a museum somewhere as they’re surely too amazing to ever wear.

If you’re looking for a literal take on an Alice-inspired look, Kimchi Blue have a blue dress in their Spring/Summer collection which is a dead ringer. Avoid the Alice-band and knee-high socks unless you’re planning to venture into costume territory!

Finally, from Junk Food, my favourite is this “We’re all mad here” t-shirt, which looks like one of those t-shirts which can live in your wardrobe forever to fling on with jeans. I’m very tempted to order this, especially as at HK$250 it’s pretty reasonably priced.

Alice in Wonderland is now showing at all major cinemas in Hong Kong so I’m looking forward to seeing whether it can possibly live up to my expectations!
