Aydee: Whatโ€™s the best way to wash down a weekday lunch in the office? With dessert, of course! Sassy HQ had a special delivery from Citrus Sweets recently with a selection of their delectable cupcakes all nice and pretty in a box โ€“ my sweet tooth was definitely jumping with joy.

I started off with their Nutella Chocolate cupcake, and I have to say that I was fairly impressed with how moist the cake was. I absolutely adore cupcakes that melt in my mouth, and that was exactly what this one did. Their homemade frosting was nice and soft, with a great consistency, which made me feel like I was eating a cloud. It definitely wasnโ€™t as sweet as I expected it to be (which other Sassy girls in the office will tell you thatโ€™s a good thing โ€“ my sweet tooth is insatiable!), but nonetheless still a tasty post-lunch treat. I was a little disappointed that there wasnโ€™t as much filling as I expected, but overall the cupcake made my tummy quite happy.

Other flavors that we tried were banana and red velvet. Others in the office who tried the red velvet said that it tasted more of a vanilla cupcake with a hint of red velvet โ€“ which would be more suited to those of you whose sweet tooth isnโ€™t as massive as mine!

One thing Shaneli did note was that she didnโ€™t need any cutlery to dig into it, which sounds like an odd thing, as cupcakes are meant to be bite-sized anyway! But sheโ€™s noticed a trend for gargantuan cupcakes recently, and this one was mess-free and had a good ratio of icing to cake.

Shaneli: It wasnโ€™t my first time tasting cakes from Citrus Sweets. Iโ€™d had a string of birthdays in April and May and was recommended to order custom-designed cakes from Hema, the owner and star baker, from some other friends.

For a friendโ€™s 30th, I ordered a two-tier cake in a shade of Tiffany & Co. blue. And it was a simple email to Hema letting her know exactly what I wanted: a four pound, chocolate and red velvet marble cake that was vegetarian (eggless) for pick up on a Saturday afternoon. I added in a few details, such as which photos to use (yes, they can incorporate photos into the cake design!) and other small details to include such as including a tiny bottle of champagne on the cake made out of fondant.

I couldnโ€™t resist poking my nose through the little window on the cake box when I picked it up โ€“ Citrus Sweets had got the smallest detail I had requested etched into the cake! The bottle of champagne even had a label with the Laurent-Perrier logo on it (the birthday girlโ€™s favourite tipple!).

Everyone at the birthday party was raving about how deliciously soft the red velvet and chocolate cake wasโ€ฆ definitely more reason to order a celebratory cake from Citrus Sweets!
