When the Sassy girls get together for their monthly meet-up, let me tell you, there’s no holding back. The atmosphere is buzzing and the frivolity infectious. Of course, in true Sassy style, the girly gossip-session is always coupled with some serious food and beverage action. So what better place to host our latest get-together than Boqueria at its ‘La Hora Barcelona!’ Spanish Happier Hour…. or make that TWO happy hours!
High up in the ultra-chic and contemporary Hotel LKF, this is a space that oozes the ambiance of a sleek modern-day ‘taberna’ (that’s Spanish-style tavern to you and me!). Step from the lift into a welcoming entrance that immediately transports you to a universe ruled by tasty Tapas and flavoursome Sangria!
Styled similarly to its famous NYC flagship, Boqueria is surprisingly spacious, with large wooden tables that are perfect for groups. Take your pick of freestanding stools or booths and soak up the lively atmosphere. The bar, which authentically sports legs of heavenly jamon hanging from above, takes centre stage and during Spanish Happier Hour is topped with a tantalizing spread of Tapas! Spanish food is renowned for being down to earth and uncomplicated, and this fine feast lives up to expectations with simple but delicious small dishes. Who needs Barcelona!
The small but scrumptious bites were the perfect accompaniment to the addictive Sangria. From the Pan con Tomate – grilled bread rubbed with tomato, garlic and olive oil, to the Bikini de Trufa y Jamon Cocido – little sandwiches of cooked ham, black truffle and Tetilla cheese, everything was packed with flavour. Then there were the Patatas Bravas – crispy potatoes, salsa brava, roasted garlic alioli which were positively moreish. With all that garlic, you won’t be kissing anyone afterwards… but it’s worth it!
The Queso de Cabra, goat cheese stuffed Piquillo peppers with honey, pine nuts and almonds were delicious bites of sweetness that we couldn’t get enough of. And of course, no Tapas spread would be complete without a significant selection of succulent cold cuts. Wash this all down with a few refreshing and reviving jugs of fruity, fabulous Sangria, and you’ll leave a very happy lady!
Oh, and I simply cannot forget to mention the churros! We do love our desserts here at Sassy, and the churros did not disappoint. These sweet, crispy doughnut-like snacks are to die for. With a side dish of mind-blowing thick, hot chocolate sauce, you’ll finish the night feeling utterly euphoric!
So, if you’re up for it, Spanish Happier Hour runs Mondays to Saturdays 6-8pm. You’ll get a constant flow of unlimited Estrella draft beer and red sangria, along with a generous supply of tasty treats all for just $188 per person.
