Breathe in, breathe out
After trying out a solo yoga retreat earlier this year, I’ve been desperately searching for the perfect yoga class right here in Hong Kong. I’ve jumped at any trial classes and tentatively tried out different studios around town, so when I was invited to Flex Studio, of course I couldn’t say no.
Flex Studio is a favourite for yogis and lovers of pilates, and we’ve been fans of Flex for a while (check out our reviews here and here). The studio has recently teamed up with one of my favourite beauty brands, Aromatherapy Associates, to incorporate some of the products into their yoga classes. As I enjoy yoga and using the occasional essential oil (tea tree is amazing for getting rid of pesky spots or clearing out a cold!), I was intrigued to see how this would work.
In the heart of Central, Flex is is a tiny oasis away from the chaotic streets outside. It’s not a huge space but I enjoy how friendly and welcoming it feels. The class, ‘Recharge & Restore’, uses Aromatherapy Associates ‘Revive’ Bath and Shower Oil, a refreshing combo of grapefruit, rosemary and juniper which is perfect if you’re in need of a pick-me-up. The class starts with some deep breathing exercises, a few simple stretches and then follows into sun salutations. I love how calm and engaging the yoga teacher is, she made me feel so at ease and the class was easy to follow but also challenged me at certain points… just what I wanted out of a yoga class.
The use of the ‘Revive’ oil came unexpectedly – during a more relaxed pose with our eyes closed, the yoga teacher came round to each person and applied a small amount of the oil to our palms, wafting the invigorating scent under our noses. It blended seamlessly into the class, adding another dimension and awakening all the senses…
By the end of the yoga class, I felt well and truly ‘recharged and restored’, ready to take on the rest of the day. If you’re keen to try out a yoga class with a twist, then I would definitely recommend giving this Aromatherapy Associates one a try! For an Aromatherapy Associates experience at Flex, you can actually choose from three of Flex’s signature yoga classes; Recharge & Restore, Prana Flow and Chakra Flow. Each class uses a different scent from Aromatherapy Associates depending on the aim of the class and what the instructor feels will blend in well. Add an extra boost to your work out that will leave you feeling even more zen than usual!
